Today the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority (Peace Bridge Authority) announced further support from members of the Western New York Congressional delegation regarding efforts to advance long-awaited improvements at the Peace Bridge corridor, including roughly $40 million in related renovations and current plaza enhancements.

Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority Chairman Sam Hoyt
“With real, tangible construction work on the horizon at the Peace Bridge, community support continues to grow for these critically important improvements. The sheer impact of Peace Bridge-related trade and tourism on the Buffalo Niagara economy cannot be overstated, and that is why we must move forward on port and plaza renovations that will make this border crossing even more reliable and efficient.”

United States Congressman Brian Higgins
“The efficient and predictable flow of people and commerce across the Peace Bridge is critical to Western New York’s economy. For decades there has been talk about expansion, now we will witness real action.  Construction on plaza renovations begins the process of opening up the bottleneck while putting people to work.”

United States Congresswoman Kathy Hochul
“With nearly one million dollars in trade across the northern border every minute, U.S.-Canadian commerce and travel is of vital economic importance to Western New York and communities across the country. I am eager to see the completion of these renovations to the Peace Bridge Plaza, which will strengthen our partnership with Canada and facilitate the creation of new economic opportunities for businesses and working people throughout our region.”

United States Congresswoman Louise Slaughter
“I believe that Western New York will benefit greatly from expanded access to international trade opportunities and I have authored and supported legislation to level the playing field for our local businesses.  Our businesses can compete and win when given the opportunity and I am supportive of efforts to facilitate that access.”

United States Congressman Tom Reed
“The flow of international trade and tourism over the Peace Bridge is vital to the economy of all of Upstate New York.  These upgrades are critical to all New Yorkers. We will realize a greater economic return on this investment.”
