BUFFALO, N.Y. (December 5, 2012)The Buffalo Sabres today announced that MSG will continue its lineup of Sabres programming on Monday nights with the premiere of another classic game on Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. The night’s episode will feature the Sabres’ emotional final game at Buffalo Memorial Auditorium, the team’s home for 26 years, on April 14, 1996. The premiere of Buffalo Sabres: Rafters Club Roundtable, an in-depth discussion with a panel of Sabres legends, will follow the classic game broadcast at 10 p.m.

The game marked the end of an era for the Sabres. “The Aud,” as it was affectionately nicknamed, had been the Sabres’ home since the team’s inception in 1970 and was finally closing its doors due to the team moving into its new arena, Marine Midland Arena (now First Niagara Center), the next season. Devoted Sabres fans who had packed The Aud for over a quarter century were treated to one final Sabres victory in the legendary arena, as Buffalo defeated the visiting Hartford Whalers, 4-1, in the final game of the 1995-96 season.

After the Sabres’ win over the Whalers, Pat LaFontaine, the team’s captain, put a final, ceremonial puck into the net amidst a standing ovation from the crowd to officially close The Aud. LaFontaine, who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003, provides special commentary throughout the two-hour re-airing of the game.

Following the classic game broadcast, MSG will premiere Buffalo Sabres: Rafters Club Roundtable, which is an in-depth interview with members of the Buffalo Sabres Rafters Club. The club is comprised of Gilbert Perreault, Rene Robert, Danny Gare and LaFontaine, all of whom have had their jersey numbers retired by the organization. The legendary Sabres players sat down with Brian Duff to discuss a variety of topics, including their time playing in Buffalo, favorite moments in Sabres history and what it means to be ambassadors of the team.

Viewers in the Buffalo and Rochester markets will be able to watch the programming on MSG, while viewers in the Syracuse, Binghamton and Albany markets can watch on the MSG+ network. DirecTV subscribers can view Monday’s classic game broadcast on channels 638 and 638-1(HD).
