Erie County Legislator Patrick B. Burke (D- Buffalo) has established a working group to research and discuss the legal and infrastructural issues surrounding Municipal Broadband services for Erie County.
Legislator Burke’s Municipal Broadband resolution received unanimous bi-partisan support when it was approved by the Erie County Economic Development Committee in late July of this year. The resolution cited the success of Municipal Broadband in Chattanooga, TN and noted that access to higher speed internet could be regional asset for established companies and help to draw others to Erie County.
“This working group is an important first step in understanding the lay of the land. There are a lot of people in our County, from start-up companies to families in rural villages that could really use better access to higher speed internet.”
