Last week I wrote a blog titled, “To Be or Not To Be….A Successful Author”.  It focused on a critique I’d received about Crown Hill from someone directly connected to the “Big League” world of publishing.

To summarize, this person told me that no publisher was ever going to be interested in Crown Hill as it has not sold tens of thousands of copies in its initial six months of publication. He ended his statement with the caveat that I needed to be realistic about that fact.

It took me a while to review and recover from those pointed words, but the truth is I didn’t bounce back on my own. After posting that article, I received emails and Fb messages from readers across the United States wanting to affirm not only Crown Hill, but the skills I have honed and applied in my 35 years of writing newspaper columns, radio commentaries, magazine stories and books.

Those responses heartened my writer’s soul and re-invigorated my work on two new books, as well as an audio version of Crown Hill. The reader support also encouraged me to continue to find ways to share my words and sustain my storyteller’s passion. But wait, there’s more!

Yesterday I received an email from an online book website called, Book Daily (BD). This company promotes itself with the tagline, “Book Samples for Book Lovers” and offers an inventory of more than 60,000 titles for members to browse and actually read a first chapter. BD also sends out a daily newsletter with regular updates on books, publishers and authors that reaches 1.5 million subscribers.

The Book Daily email I received was sent from one of their editors, a friendly young woman by the name of Krystal. In her electronic note, Krystal stated that my submission of  “To Be or Not To Be…”  would be the Featured Article of The Day in the BD Newsletter. My now-new-best-friend, Krystal, further noted they were going to include me as their Featured Author of The Day, complete with photo, bio and direct links to my books and website.

And that is how in the span of a week, with the wondrous support of readers and book lovers, I am “Be”-coming a successful author.
