Cheektowaga Police say an officer shot and killed a man who confronted him with a gun late Saturday.

Assistant Chief Speyer said that the officer was immediately forced to “use deadly force to defend himself.”

After being shot, the victim was taken to St. Joes Hospital where he died a short time later.

A weapon was recovered from the scene of the incident, and police say it “appears to be the weapon that was stolen.”

The officer involved is a 16-year veteran of the police department. Currently he is on paid administrative leave. This is a department policy for when an officer uses deadly force.
