This week’s final Memorial Week tribute to America’s veterans features a BuffaloStyle interview from 2010 when a refurbished B-17 WW II bomber christened, The Liberty Belle, came to Buffalo. I was invited as part of the media corps to preview the plane before the general public.
What began as a traditional media event turned into a remarkable interview experience as one of my friends knew a veteran who had flown a B-17, just like the Liberty Belle. Thirty minutes and a few conversations with Liberty Bell officials later, my friend escorted WWII Veteran, Peter Sciolino, into the airport hanger and there we shared a very special afternoon of his wartime memories.
