“President Trump’s attempt to unilaterally end DACA protection was a vicious assault on hundreds of thousands of people who came here as children and who call this nation home. While the courts intervened to uphold the fundamental values of openness and inclusion that built this state and this country, Congress and the President have a responsibility to fix the system and protect Dreamers. Doing nothing is not an option.

“New York will not sit idly by while the rights of nearly 50,000 New Yorkers are threatened. This state led the way by taking action to protect DACA recipients and ensure they remain eligible for state-funded Medicaid even if the federal program is terminated. I will continue to fight to pass the DREAM Act this legislative session, opening the doors of higher education to thousands more New Yorkers. In this state, we believe our diversity is our greatest strength and we will continue to fight to ensure opportunity for all.”
