One of the oldest and most respected makers of Lambic in the world, Brasserie Cantillon, in Brussels, Belgium will once again release a very special beer for this year’s Zwanze Day.
For 2017 Zwanze, Cantillon is releasing a two year old lambic brewed with oolong tea, a blue-green tea that is inspired by Jean’s son, Sylvian’s love for iced tea. Sylvian is turning 18 this year.
On top of the 2017 Zwanze, we’ve been informed that we are also going to be able to offer pours of Cantillon Gueuze, Cuvée St-Gilloise, Vigneronne, St-Lamvinus, and Nath (pronounced ‘Nat’ – a rhubarb lambic).
We will be opening doors at 11am with all Cantillon on tap except the Zwanze 2017 which will start pouring at 3pm. Zwanze 2017 will be served in 6oz pours so there is enough to go around.
Tickets for Zwanze pours will be capped at 160: Similar to last year, there is a very limited amount of Cantillon beer available so this will be a ticketed event. All will be able to enter the event, however, only Zwanze Day ticket holders will be served the Zwanze pours.
$25 gets a 6oz Zwanze 2017 Pour, one additional non-Zwanze 6oz Cantillon pour, and a commemorative 2017 Thin Man Zwanze Day glass. Two tickets allowed per person, per order.
Thin Man owes a huge thanks to Cantillon, Shelton Brothers and Remarkable Liquids for making this day possible.
We do this thing every year where we have a cool New Orleans style funeral parade over at Hot Mama’s Canteen for the end of our non-winter seasonal, Rutherford B. Haze Belgian Style Wheat.
This year is no exception; we’re doing it again because it’s such a cool and fun thing.
Join us at 2pm for a couple drinks at Hot Mama’s first, and then proceed to the corner of Grant and Amherst at 3pm to start the parade as we solemly walk down Amherst St in mourning for our dearest departed RBH.
Goodnight sweet prince.
On our third day of Buffalo Beer Week, we’ll be tapping into some De Struise Brouwers Cuvée Delphine and Blue Monk Reserve!
Definitely be here for this limited tapping!
Struise Cuvée Delphine | 11% ABV
This beer takes its name from Delphine Boël, the unlawful daughter of King Albert II. She has struggled for acknowledgment in both her professional and private lives, so we decided she deserves a tribute fit for a princess. Cuvée Delphine is our Black Albert, carefully matured on Four Roses bourbon barrels for 12 months. Mrs. Boël has kindly allowed us to use her artwork for its label, which speaks for itself. In a sea of sickly sweet and heavy bourbon aged stouts, we wanted Cuvée Delphine to shine brightly as a pinnacle of balance and restraint. Only with a base beer as potent as Black Albert could we manage to make the aging process shine. Notes of oak and slight vanilla pair extraordinarily well with the familiar coffee and brown sugar notes from the Black Albert. The subdued alcohol ties it all together in a lush, mellow experience. Cuvée Delphine will set you free.
Blue Monk Special Reserve | 10% ABV
is a quadruple which has been aged for 3 years in red wine barrels from Chateau Margaux! It is dark brown in color with a beige foam. According Struise an aroma and bouquet of red wine – fruity red wine, with a taste of berries and black cherries. Caramel malt with light smoke and chocolate flavors. Fruity elements of red fruits from the aging in barrels of Chateau Margaux, these flavors adding light vanilla and wood tannins. The finish is soft smoky, fruity and slight hoppy.
Today we’ll be tapping into some apple brandy barrel aged Forever Cordial, our Imperial Stout collaboration with Three Sons Brewing Co..
“Massive Imperial Stout from the minds behind Thin Man and 3 Sons. A huge roasty malt backbone anchors the cocoa and cherries in this silky-bodied 14.1% behemoth.”
