Photos: Border Patrol kills man after he shot officer, police say

(NewsNation) — New photos show the scene where Border Patrol shot and killed a man after he opened fire and injured a police officer at a building that houses Border Patrol at a Texas airport, police say.

Police say they got a call before 6 a.m. Monday about a person attacking the building at the McAllen, Texas, airport. The airport was shut down as police responded.

Officer Ismael Garcia, who has served the McAllen Police Department for 10 years, was hit by gunfire and taken to a hospital, McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said at a news conference on Monday morning.

Rodriguez said the shooter was Ryan Louis Mosqueda, 27, of Michigan. Police say he was killed when Border Patrol returned fire. Mosqueda did not enter the building, police said.

Rodriguez added Mosqueda had additional weapons and ammunition beyond what he was carrying.

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive.

Mosqueda’s car had “Cordis Die” painted on it, possibly a reference to a mission in some Call of Duty video games, but Rodriguez said he wasn’t able to explain a connection between the phrase and the shooting.
