While I believe that online piracy and copyright infringement are serious problems that must be addressed, I have serious concerns with the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) and oppose these bills in their current forms. These two bills would hinder the growth of our growing tech industry, as well as the thousands of jobs that rely on businesses like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube,Wikipedia and Google.

I will work with my colleagues to come up with a sensible resolution that will crack down on those breaking the law. However, I will also fight to protect the sacred right of our citizens’ freedom of speech – whether that speech occurs verbally, in print, or on the World Wide Web; it must be protected.
