Police Say Dollar Accused General Shooter Did Not Violate SAFE ACT

The Cheektowaga man accused in the Nov. 14 shooting spree outside a Dollar General will not face any charges under the state’s tough gun-control law, according to Cheektowaga police.

In the days after the shooting, Cheektowaga police initially said the two guns “at first glance” did not appear to comply with the law passed in 2013 in the wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

The other rifle had a side grip that police thought may be illegal. Green also had high-capacity magazines authorities said may have been prohibited under law.

Travis J. Green legally owned the two AR-15 rifles found at the scene outside the Cheektowaga discount store and Green’s high-powered firearms did not violate the NY SAFE Act, Assistant Cheektowaga Police Chief James Speyer said Monday.
