Biden considers new $1B weapons sale to Israel: Report

WASHINGTON (NewsNation) — As tensions escalate in the Middle East, the Biden administration is considering a new weapons deal worth $1 billion for Israel, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The deal would include supplying the country with tank ammunition, military vehicles and mortar rounds, according to the report. It would mark one of the largest transfers since Israel’s invasion of Gaza following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack that killed 1,200 people.

The potential sale would be in addition to the proposed military aid deal currently being weighed in Congress, according to the report.

U.S. officials told the Wall Street Journal that Israel could receive “transfers of $700 million in 120 mm tank ammunition, $500 million in tactical vehicles and less than $100 million in 120 mm mortar rounds.”

While the deal could provide Israel with much-needed support, the sale, which could take months or even years, would need to be approved by Congress.
