Trump, Vance to target Harris on border in North Carolina

ASHEBORO, N.C. (NewsNation) — Former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, will return to the campaign trail Wednesday in Asheboro, North Carolina, as part of their counter-programming strategy against the Democratic National Convention

The Republican presidential ticket will deliver remarks on national security at an event, with Vance speaking at 1 p.m. ET and Trump at 2 p.m. ET.

Trump and Vance plan to continue to try to Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, to President Joe Biden’s national security policies and argue the policies diminish the safety of Americans. Additionally, they’re expected to criticize Harris’ handling of the southern border while she was tasked with addressing the root causes of migration.

Wednesday’s rally will mark Trump’s third visit to the Tar Heel State in the last month, underlining the state’s importance in his reelection strategy.

Harris leading anti-police crusade: Trump

Before heading to North Carolina, Trump and Vance have been touring battleground states, holding events in Wisconsin and Michigan this week.

Trump blamed Harris for America’s crime problems, though violent crime has been on the decline in many major cities.

Trump, Harris differ on global conflicts

Trump has campaigned on ending the Israel-Hamas war while showing empathy for Israel. Harris has also said Israel has a right to defend itself while calling for a deal to reach a cease-fire and secure the release of hostages.

Trump has also claimed he could end the war in Ukraine within days of returning to the White House, though he hasn’t provided details on how.

Additionally, Trump argues the Biden-Harris border policies have allowed terrorists to slip into the U.S.

A recent report 19-page report from the GOP-led House Judiciary Committee revealed more than 250 migrants on the terrorist “watch list” entered the United States illegally at the southern border during fiscal years 2021, 2022 and 2023, with at least 99 of them later allowed to enter and settle.

Trump admin gets sharp rebuke as judge outright terminates high-profile deportation case

An immigration judge has axed the Trump administration's deportation case against Mohsen Mahdawi, a Columbia University graduate student and pro-Palestinian activist, marking another major legal blow to the government's crackdown on college campus demonstrators in recent weeks.

The judge terminated the case after determining the government failed to properly authenticate a crucial document, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing Mahdawi's legal team. The 35-year-old Palestinian green-card holder faced charges of posing a "foreign-policy threat" to the U.S. following his detention in April at a citizenship interview in Vermont.

"I am grateful to the court for honoring the rule of law and holding the line against the government’s attempts to trample on due process," Mahdawi said.

Mahdawi arrived in the U.S. in 2014 after growing up in a West Bank refugee camp. He organized demonstrations at the Ivy League institution during the administration's spring campus crackdown targeting what it characterized as antisemitism and extremist ideology. He was among several high-profile activists detained and accused of threatening national security through their activism.

Though the dismissal prevents immediate deportation, the administration retains options to appeal or refile charges. Mahdawi's case follows the recent dismissal of charges against Tufts student Rumeysa Ozturk, who spent weeks in detention after police arrested her on a street, claiming she posed a deportation risk for co-writing a pro-Palestinian opinion piece.
