NEW ORLEANS (NewsNation) — Sources confirm to NewsNation local affiliate WGNO a 42-year-old man was responsible for the New Year’s attack that killed 10 people and injured 35 more in New Orleans.
Shamsud Din Jabbar, said to be from Texas, was shot and killed by police after crashing into the crowd of revelers on Bourbon Street.
Investigators recovered a handgun and an AR-style rifle after the shootout, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press. The FBI said an Islamic State group flag was recovered in the suspect’s vehicle.
Alethea Duncan, an assistant special agent in charge of the FBI’s New Orleans field office, said officials were investigating the discovery of at least one suspected improvised explosive device at the scene.
The attack is being investigated as an act of terrorism, according to the FBI.
