Talent agent and musician killed in San Diego plane crash

(NewsNation) — The co-founder of a music talent agency and the former drummer of the metalcore band The Devil Wears Prada were among three people killed when a small plane crashed into a San Diego neighborhood Thursday.

Sound Talent Group says 3 employees dead

Sound Talent Group said three of its employees, including co-founder Dave Shapiro, were killed in the crash but did not identify the other two. In a social media post, The Devil Wears Prada said former drummer Daniel Williams was on the flight and had perished.

“We are devastated by the loss of our co-founder, colleagues and friends. Our hearts go out to their families and to everyone impacted by today’s tragedy. Thank you so much for respecting their privacy at this time,” Sound Talent Group said in a prepared statement.

Shapiro also owned a flight school called Velocity Aviation and a record label, Velocity Records, according to his LinkedIn page.

The plane struck powerlines two miles from the airport and then struck a house early Thursday, officials said. The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a team of eight investigators plus the airplane manufacturer to investigate. They will spend tonight and tomorrow on scene and plan to recover the plane on Saturday.

In a press briefing, an investigator said the plane departed Teterboro, N.J., at 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday and stopped in Wichita, Kansas, to refuel.

A preliminary report is expected in two to three weeks with a final report ready in 12 to 18 months. The plane likely had a flight data recorder or cockpit voice recorder but investigators have not yet listened to any audio.

Eight people were also injured, authorities said. None of the fatalities were from people on the ground. One person was taken for treatment, and the others were treated at the evacuation center and released.

The number of passengers on the plane remains unknown, and officials described a very large debris field from the crash.

One home was permanently destroyed, officials said, and multiple other homes suffered damage from the crash.

Authorities said the scene is being held for the National Transportation Safety Board to investigate.

The private plane originated in the Midwest, and it was unclear whether there was any communication from the pilot to the Federal Aviation Administration.

One car fire was still burning late Thursday morning, with first responders working to put it out. The area was a military neighborhood, and nearly 100 people have been displaced by the crash.

The San Diego Humane Society also reported it was providing medical care to dogs who reportedly had jet fuel on their fur from the crash, giving them decontamination baths.

The Cessna 550, which can carry ten passengers, crashed near the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport around 3:45 a.m. local time, according to the FAA.

At the time of the crash, the weather was foggy.

“We have jet fuel all over the place,” Assistant Fire Department Chief Dan Eddy said during a news conference. “Our main goal is to search all these homes and get everybody out right now.”

Eddy said there was “a direct hit to multiple homes” in San Diego’s Murphy Canyon neighborhood and described “a gigantic debris field” in a dense, packed area.

ICE sent into frenzy to return longtime Trump golf employee mistakenly deported to Mexico

A longtime former employee at one of President Donald Trump's golf clubs was mistakenly deported to Mexico, The New York Times reported — sending U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement into a mad scramble to correct the error and bring him home.

"Alejandro Juarez stepped off a plane in Texas and stood on a bridge over the Rio Grande, staring at the same border that he had crossed illegally from Mexico 22 years earlier," reported Luis Ferré-Sadurní and Hamed Aleaziz. "As U.S. immigration officials unshackled restraints bound to his arms and legs, Mr. Juarez, 39, pleaded with them. He told them he was never given a chance to contest his deportation in front of an immigration judge after being detained in New York City five days before."

As it turned out, the Department of Homeland Security had mistakenly put him on a deportation flight instead of sending him to a detention facility in Arizona ahead of his immigration hearing, to which he was entitled.

"Their actions probably violated federal immigration laws, which entitle most immigrants facing deportation to a hearing before a judge — a hearing Mr. Juarez never had," said the report. "ICE officials raced to decipher his whereabouts, exchanging bewildered emails and contacting detention facilities to pinpoint his location, according to internal ICE documents obtained by The New York Times. It is unclear how many other immigrants like Mr. Juarez have been erroneously removed, in part because ICE has not in the past tracked such cases."

Juarez "had worked for more than a decade at a Trump Organization golf club in New York," noted the report, and suddenly found himself expelled from the United States.

Similar administrative mistakes have happened on other occasions, most notably with Salvadoran migrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported from his family in Maryland to the infamous CECOT megaprison in his home country, despite a court order prohibiting his removal there. After months of denying they had jurisdiction to repatriate him, the Trump administration finally did so, but then immediately hit him with flimsy gang charges, and started shopping around for any other country that would accept him, including several in Africa.

Marjorie Taylor Greene calls for government ‘overthrow’: ‘It rapes you every single day’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) suggested that "forgotten" Americans should "overthrow" the government.

During a Wednesday interview with a podcaster named Shipwreck, Greene said the American people "have forgotten their power."

"I call them the forgotten American man and woman," she explained. "That is the largest group of Americans. And I think, in my opinion, that is the most powerful group of Americans."

"They could rein in their government like that. Not only could they rein it in, they could overthrow it," she remarked. "That's about 100 million Americans, right?"

"Let's say 100 million Americans that say, f-- you to the government and refuse to pay their taxes. This is how to do it."

Greene insisted that "the federal government has [screwed] you over."

"It rapes you every single day," she insisted. "Social Security, you pay in and your Social Security check, and your employer matches it for all these years, and you retire and you get like a diddly $1,500 a month. I mean, that is such a pathetic joke."

"So when I tell you, look, I am dead serious about the American people," the lawmaker added. "If they really wanted to, everybody I work with, all of my colleagues, everybody in the government, they would be terrified to talk to a lobbyist or talk to a foreign government or they would be terrified to, to step out of line if the American people got serious about forcing Congress and the Senate and the administration, no matter who's serving, to serve them, serve the people."
