Governor Hochul Makes an Education Funding Announcement in Albany

August 3, 2023 - Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $108 million is available for school districts to support student well-being through expanding mental health supports. The new State matching fund, the $100 million Recover from COVID School Program, will provide funding to create or expand programs to help students address trauma caused by the pandemic, prioritizing school districts with the highest need. Additionally, a portion of the $100 million Recover from COVID School Program is available to address student learning loss exacerbated by the pandemic. Governor Hochul is also expanding school-based mental health clinics across the state through an $8.3 million investment within her historic $1 billion mental health plan. Today’s announcement of funding advances one of Governor Hochul’s State of the State priorities to expand mental health support for students and school staff.

It's leading some people to get creative about cooling off. An Amazon driver received a refreshing surprise as he made a delivery in the blazing California sun. The homeowner left a note inviting him to take a dip in the pool. The delivery driver put his phone on a table and then dived into the pool fully clothed.

Live: Capitol Police say no active shooter found at Senate office after lockdown

Watch live from outside the US Capitol as police respond to unconfirmed reports of an active shooter on Wednesday 2 August. Officers were dispatched to canvass Senate office buildings in response to what police described as “a concerning 911 call”. In a post on X (the social media website formerly known as Twitter), the US Capitol Police department advised that people should stay away from the area as officers are still investigating. “Our officers are searching in and around the Senate Office Buildings in response to a concerning 911 call. Please stay away from the area,” the post read. A subsequent post from Capitol Police said that there have been no confirmed reports of gunshots. “If you are inside the Senate Buildings, everyone inside should be sheltering in place as the report was for a possible active shooter.
