Governor Hochul warned that a shifting wildfire smoke plume could worsen air quality statewide Saturday and that Western New York faces an enhanced risk of severe thunderstorms with possible damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

State officials say Western New York may see air "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" on July 17. More than 100,000 N95-style masks have been made available to counties and masks are being distributed at several Thruway rest stops.
