Attorney General James Secures Court Order Requiring Syracuse Landlord to Correct Violations at their Properties and Pay Penalties

NEW YORK – New York Attorney General Letitia James today released the following statement after a court ruled in her office’s favor and ordered Syracuse landlord, Greenland Property Services, LLC and its related entities (Green National), to correct all code violations at their properties, install a monitor, and pay penalties for violating their agreement:

“I am pleased with today’s court decision requiring Green National to clean up its act and ensure tenants have a safe and decent place to live. We’re holding Green National accountable for failing to meet the needs of their tenants. New Yorkers deserve to live in dignity and we will continue to do our job to make sure they are protected.”

Today’s court decision requires Green National to correct all code violations issued by the City of Syracuse’s Division of Code Enforcement and retain a monitor to submit monthly reports to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) on code compliance, including past due reports. In addition, Green National must pay a $5,000 civil penalty for each violation, $2,000 in statutory costs, and $100 for each day they failed to comply with the prior agreement.

In October, Attorney General James sued Green National for failing to comply with parts of an agreement made with her office. The agreement required Green National to correct code violations in their buildings in a timely manner, pay a $300,000 penalty, and retain an independent monitor to review its code compliance procedures and submit monthly reports to OAG.
