UAW ENDORSES SEAN RYAN FOR MAYOR

Senator Sean Ryan announced an endorsement from the United Auto Workers (UAW) Region 9 Western New York CAP Council, adding to the growing list of union endorsements for his campaign to become the next Mayor of the City of Buffalo.

Senator Sean Ryan said, “I have worked side-by-side with the UAW throughout my time in office and I am honored to have their support to be the next Mayor of the City of Buffalo. Unions are a key part of our economy, have built our middle class, and are responsible for many of the rights workers enjoy today. When unions win, workers and families win. As mayor, I will continue to be a strong ally for workers to create the better Buffalo that we all know is possible.”

Wence Valentin, UAW Region 9 Political Director said, “Members of UAW Region 9 Western New York CAP Council have voted to endorse Senator Sean Ryan for Mayor of the City of Buffalo. UAW Members and leaders met with candidates for the November 2025 Buffalo Mayoral race seeking the endorsement of UAW.

“Senator Ryan has an extensive history of supporting working families by showing up on strike lines, participating in labor rallies and championing legislative priorities in Albany. The Senator earned this endorsement with his positive track record on labor issues and standing up for members both active and retired. The City of Buffalo will be well served by the experience and dedication of Senator Sean Ryan.

“As working people, the endorsement process is a critical component to ensure our elected representatives are the strongest union allies. Our collective power, especially in Western New York, has been well earned by the commitment of our members to our union and we must ensure that those elected to local, state, and federal levels will walk with us side by side. We look forward to activating our membership to elect Sean Ryan.”

This is the fourth endorsement from organized labor to Ryan’s campaign since he announced his run for Mayor of Buffalo in November 2024. He currently holds the only four known labor endorsements in the 2025 Buffalo Mayoral race with Communications Workers of America (CWA) District 1, District Council #4 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT – DC4) and NASRCC – Carpenters Local 276 endorsing his campaign earlier this month.

Trump tried to sabotage nemesis over bid to release Epstein files: report

President Donald Trump was reportedly so hell-bent on trying to stop lawmakers from revealing the relationship he had with Jeffrey Epstein that he tried to poach a Republican enemy's staff.

Trump apparently wanted to stop Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and his team. Massie was pushing legislation to prompt the Department of Justice to release the Epstein files and the trove of documents connected to the late financier and convicted child sex offender, according to The Daily Beast.

The president reportedly aimed to disrupt Massie, who had co-sponsored the legislation with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA).

"As the House moved toward a vote on releasing the Epstein files last summer and fall, the White House and top Trump allies launched an effort to forestall it that lawmakers told me was unprecedented in its intensity and scope," according to The Atlantic.

"Massie called it a '360-pressure campaign,' one felt not just by him and his staff but anyone associated with him," The Atlantic reported. "One tactic he had not experienced before: Some of his key staff members were suddenly offered more prestigious jobs in the Trump administration or more lucrative jobs in the private sector—the idea being that if Massie no longer had a full staff, he couldn’t pursue ambitious legislation."

Massie revealed several situations that caused him to pause.

"Massie recalled asking an employee who, a few weeks before the vote, had received an employment offer that would double his salary: 'Did it ever occur to you that they might be offering you this job to basically make me less effective?' He said the young man sheepishly replied: 'That’s what my mom said.' He turned down the offer and finished writing the bill," according to The Atlantic.

The Republican lawmaker has also signaled that he has felt unsafe during the process to release the files.

"I’ve p---ed off enough billionaires who are clearly amoral people that I might have shortened my expected lifespan,” he told The Atlantic.
