The semi-annual financial reports required for all political committees in New York were due on January 16th. Here is a summary of the accounts of elected officials and candidates in the Western New York area and statewide. Updates will be made to this post as the filings are reported:
State Senate
- 63rd District. Democratic Erie County Legislature Chairwoman April Baskin, who was recently re-elected, has declared her interest in the Senate seat being vacated by congressional candidate Tim Kennedy. Over the past six months she raised $25,848 and has $82,029 available in her campaign account.
- Democratic Buffalo Fillmore District Councilmember MitchNowakowski, who was also recently re-elected, has also declared his interest in the 63rd District. He has $63,355 available in his campaign account.
- Incumbent Democratic Senator Tim Kennedy has been a prolific fundraiser. His state campaign treasury cannot be directly funneled into his campaign for Congress, although the transfer of some or all of the funds into a federal Super PAC to aid in the congressional election is possible. Over the past six months Kennedy raised $257,571, spent $1,063,287, and had a balance of $1,324,728. His spending includes hundreds of thousands of dollars to state and local political committees, along with substantial consultant expenses.
- 57th District. Republican incumbent Senator George Borello over the past six months raised $20,432, spent $40,372, and has $121,799 available in his campaign account. He has filed to participate in the state’s new Public Campaign Financing Program.
- 60th District. Republican incumbent Pat Gallivan over the past six months raised $52,511, spent nothing, and has $238,720 available in his campaign account. He has filed to participate in the state’s Public Campaign Financing Program.
- 61st District. Democratic incumbent Sean Ryan raised $116,836, spent $54,954, and has $233,468 in his treasury.
- 62nd District. Republican incumbent Rober Ortt, who is also the Minority Leader of the Senate, over the past six months raised $63,572, spent $50,193 , and has $401,266 available in his campaign account.
State Assembly
- 140th District. Democratic incumbent Bill Conrad over the past six months raised $2,600, spent $1,343, and has $47,295 available in his campaign account.
- 141st District. Democratic incumbent Crystal Peoples-Stokes, who is also the Assembly Majority Leader, over the past six months raised $109,063, spent $125,480, and has $202,056 available in her campaign account.
- 142nd District. Democratic incumbent Pat Burke over the past six months has raised $3,067, spent $776, and has $2,085 available in his campaign account.
- Joe Flatley in December declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 142nd District. Thus far he does not have a committee on file.
- 143rd District. Democratic incumbent Monica Wallace over the past six months raised $49,250, spent $7,206, and has $128,740 available in her campaign account.
- 144th District. Republican incumbent Michael Norris over the past six months raised $23,083, spent $45,123, and has $126,444 available in his campaign account. He has filed to participate in the state’s Public Campaign Financing Program.
- 145th District. Republican incumbent Angelo Morinello raised $26,751, spent $18,572, and was left with a balance of $23,500.
- 146th District. Democratic incumbent Karen McMahon over the past six months raised $18,262, spent $7,072, and has $68,546 available in her campaign account.
- 147th District. Republican incumbent David DiPietro’s January 2024 report shows $10,225 raised, $9,827 spent, and a balance of $141,236.
- Mitch Martin has declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 147th District. Thus far he has raised $18,178, spent $4,053, and has $14,126 available in his campaign account. He has filed to participate in the state’s Public Campaign Financing Program.
- 148th District. Republican incumbent Joseph Giglio over the past six months has raised $1,000, spent $4,551, and has $6,234 available in his campaign account.
- 149th District. Democratic incumbent Jon Rivera reported $21,641 raised, $26,848 spent, and a balance of $32,217.
- 150th District. Republican incumbent Andrew Goodell over the past six months raised $1,000, spent $500, and has $55,412 available in his campaign account.
New York State
- Governor Kathy Hochul over the past six months raised $6,377,653, spent $1,660,262, and a balance of $9,087,640.
- Comptroller Tom DiNapoli over the past six months has raised $387,536, spent $282,817, and has $326,816 available in his campaign account. He has filed to participate in the state’s Public Campaign Financing Program.
- Attorney General Tish James over the past six months raised $562,753, spent $390,389, and has an account balance of $630,312.
Erie County and other local officials
- Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, recently re-elected to a fourth term, has an account balance of $29,345.
- Erie County Sheriff John Garcia over the past six months raised $101,217, spent $25,709, and has $233,862 available in his campaign account.
- Erie County Comptroller Kevin Hardwick over the past six months raised $9,559, spent $1,795, and has $24,937 available in his campaign account.
- Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns, who could be a candidate for the Assembly in the 142nd District, over the past six months raised nothing, spent $1,801, and has $13,800 available in his campaign account.
- Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown’s January 2024 report was not posted as of the evening of January 16. He reported a balance of $212,542 in his account as of July 21, 2023.
- Democratic candidate for Erie County District Attorney Michael Keane raised $173,131, spent $15,901, and has a balance of $157,230.
- Republican Frank Bogulski was recently elected as a member of the Hamburg Town Board. An attorney, he sometimes identifies himself as “Lawman Frank.” Lawman Frank has failed to follow the Election Law requirements for filing campaign financial reports. He is delinquent on his July 15, October 6, October 27, December 4, and January 16 reports.
- Former elected officials
- Former state Senator George Maziarz’s January 2024 report was not posted as of the evening of January 16. He reported a balance of $540,355 in his account as of July 13, 2023.
- Former state Senator Michael Ranzenhofer has a balance of $776,643.
- Former state Assemblyman Robin Schimminger has a balance of $376,590.
- Fromer Erie County Executive Joel Giambra does not have a recent report on file with the state Board of Elections.
- Former Buffalo Mayor Tony Masiello does not have a recent report on file with the state Board of Elections.
Federal
Congressional candidates have until the end of January to file their most recent quarterly financial reports. Neither Congressman Nick Langworthy nor candidate Tim Kennedy have filed for that period yet. Congressman Langworthy had $547,240 cash on hand as of September 30, 2023.
