Hamburg Democrats Call for a Moratorium on All Robocalls
Yesterday, Hamburg residents received ”robocalls” beginning with the phrase “CODE BLUE – IDENTITY THEFT ALERT!” The call went on to attack a democratic Town Board candidate. While the Hamburg Democrats applaud the recent Code Red Initiative, the use of CODE BLUE by supporters of Councilwoman Amy Ziegler is a step over the line.
“Democrats and Republicans alike have the responsibility to get their message out to the voters, but when you cross the line of public safety you have gone too far,” noted Mike Amodeo, Vice Chair of the Hamburg Democratic Committee. Amodeo fielded complaints from senior citizens and parents of school children who were alarmed and frightened when they heard a pre-recorded message starting with “CODE BLUE.”
“As a community, we need to be vigilant, we need to pay attention to Amber Alerts, Silver Alerts, and Red Alerts. This election trick is obviously going to dilute the importance of these alert systems and shows just how irresponsible the Republicans are. I call on all Town Board candidates to agree to a moratorium on “robocalls” in the interest of public safety and concern,” Amodeo concluded.
