Dr. James Corasanti was sentenced Thursday to a year in jail in connection with the accident that killed teenager Alix Rice.

This follows the health department’s actions after Dr. Corasanti admitted guilt to the charge of having been convicted of driving while intoxicated. Dr. Corasanti was censured, fined $10,000 and put on probation for five years. He may apply for a modification or termination of the terms of probation after at least three years.

Judge Sheila DiTullio sentenenced Corasanti to a year in jail, a $1,000 fine, and his driver’s license is revoked for six-months. He was not sentenced to community service and will not be put on probation.

Corasanti did not speak before his sentencing.  He was led away in handcuffs.
