(Author's note: I came up with the general theme and "Stop it." idea halfway through writing this. Hence why it seems a bit disorganized. Still in better shape than the Bills, I think.)
Hey everybody! Did you miss me?
Ok then. Well if anybody even knows/remembers who the hell I am, I have not written for Buffalo Wins for a long time because of school, work, and a bunch of other stuff that likes to pile up and try to crush my soul. I felt the need to write, so, here goes.
If you recall, my last piece was some foolishly optimistic BS about how I wanted Fitz as my QB over Peyton Manning. I was young and we all make mistakes. The thing is, this was really the first year I was all in on the Bills and football. In years past, I had always been a fringe fan. I knew the Bills sucked. I had a general idea of what football was, but was always (and still am) a hockey guy.
Since the NHL seemed intent on destroying my hockey fandom, I really went hard on football. I bought my $50 counterfeit Fred Jackson jersey out of some guy's garage in Alden before the season started. I watched all the preseason shows, did my due diligence, learned who would be good, who would be bad, the big players, and all that jazz. I got excited about football season.
Then Week 1 rolled around.
I recall rushing home from work at the sub shop that allows me to live paycheck to paycheck. I threw on my jersey while getting ready for what I thought was going to be the Bills throwing down an ass kicking to the Jets.
By game's end, I had broken the automatic air freshener I had just purchased for the living room and was upset to say the least. Fred was hurt and we had just got embarrassed by the quarterback who managed this. Yeah.
Fast forward to this week, the Bills are still terrible and the entire team is in self-denial when it comes to playoff talk. They're out of the playoff picture. Period. Chan is in denial that running the ball works, EVEN THOUGH IT'S PLAYED A PART IN EVERY ONE OF OUR PATHETIC 5 WINS!
(At this point I don't even know where I'm going with this, please try to bare with me. I've been writing hard news articles for the last three months).
Stop toying with me, Bills. Things have to change. Fire everybody. Chan needs to go. I thought I liked the guy, but, alas, I was merely fooled by his southern charm. I've seen a few people suggest recently that the Bills are a good enough team that has been killed by the coach. I agree.
I had the sense that after the Indy game, there was a lot of criticism from the players. There was Stevie talking about the play calling. Fitz seemed to even hint himself that we don't run enough. Again, HE'S THE [expletive] QUARTERBACK! I really think a real coach, would've been able to recognize he has one of the best running backs (and possibly the best running tandem) in the league.
Instead, CJ Spiller spends more time on the sidelines than the Jills and Fitz, in my opinion, has been coached into the ground. . If you give him too much to think about or pressure to be the main offensive weapon, he'll over think everything and throw passes into the ground that a High Schooler could make.
Basically, the coaching staff messed with everything. They confused the crap out of everyone with the Mario Williams' injury. Our head coach and "genius play caller" can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag while our GM Foghorn Leghorn….er, I mean Buddy Nix, continually backs Chan and Fitz as "our guys."
I like it when the Bills win, but unless every team currently holding a Wild Card spot and all the teams "in the hunt" decide to cease operations or lose out, the Bills aren't making the playoffs. 13 years. No playoffs.
I am increasingly intrigued by this Aaron Murray fellow. DRAFT HIM PLEASE. Easier said than done, I know. But we need a real quarterback. Not some veteran that's been bounced around or some 7th round pick. This kid has the potential (oh lord, I hate that word). Outside of that, I don't really have an offseason plan except to get a real coach. Maybe an up and coming coordinator for another team would be our best bet. Dating back to Jauron and Chan today, it's pretty clear retreads are not the answer.
That's all I've got for now. I've pretty much run out of gas as I'm in library past 2 AM for the third night in a row. I think this was a venting exercise for me more than anything.
Anyway, I'll be back to write more once the insanity of finals week ends. Until then, I hope hockey comes back. I hope the country doesn't plunge off this fiscal cliff. Once Finals ends, I'll be able to kick back with a glass of bourbon and be happy with my semester.
See you on the flip side.
