The Buffalo Police Benevolent Association (PBA), dedicated to preserving and improving the working conditions of PBA members, recently announced their endorsement of Bernie Tolbert in the race for Mayor of Buffalo. Buffalo PBA President, Kevin Kennedy made the announcement.
“The Buffalo PBA has made this choice to endorse Mr. Tolbert because what it views has been a disservice to the citizens of Buffalo, NY by the current Mayor and his staff,” Kennedy said. “The men and women of the Buffalo Police Benevolent Association, Inc. have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Mr. Tolbert because they feel that the current Mayor has not properly addressed many of their concerns regarding the increasing violence in the streets that they are sworn to protect. Under the current Mayor, Buffalo has become the number one (1) most violent city in the state of New York and, the tenth (10) most violent cities in the nation. The PBA and its members think it is long overdue for professional leadership in the area of law enforcement. Members of the PBA have witnessed the erosion of the quality of life of the citizens of the City of Buffalo and have long yearned to be a partner in turning this around. The current administration of the City of Buffalo has turned their back on the trained professional who provide for the overall safety and security of the property and citizens of this great city. The Buffalo Police Department has become far too political during the current Mayor’s tenure. This status is not the way to make a substantial change for the betterment of our citizens and our police officers. We believe that Mr. Tolbert’s education, professional background and, personal qualities lend themselves to working with the PBA in making this once great city a shining example for the whole nation.”
In acknowledging the Buffalo PBA endorsement, Tolbert noted the importance of the full-fledged support. “I am honored that “Buffalo’s Finest” has offered their public endorsement of my abilities as a former law enforcement officer and as the future Mayor of Buffalo,” Tolbert said. “I understand the challenges these dedicated men and women face every day in putting their lives on the line for the people of our city. I look forward to partnering with them in making the better choices needed to restore and ensure the safety of our community.”
