Seminars, Demonstrations and Local Exhibitors to Connect Women with Area Resources

Bestselling Pregnancy and Parenting Author Ann Douglas to Lead Select Seminars and Book Signing

Rochester, NY (March 8, 2016) Beyond the Bump, a premier convention designed to prepare new and soon-to-be moms for all aspects of having a baby, will host its first Buffalo event on April 2 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm. The fun and educational experience is part of a four-city program expansion, and will bring together local organizations that cater to pregnant women, new mothers and their babies at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo located at 2 Fountain Plaza. As a special guest, bestselling pregnancy and parenting author Ann Douglas will travel to the area to lead three seminars and participate in a book signing.

Attendees can expect 12 expert-led seminars that focus on topics related to pregnancy, labor & delivery, newborns & infants, and the transition to motherhood, plus seven demonstrations that will teach a variety of skills such as cloth diapering or comforting labor positions that can easily be put into practice in the home. There will also be baby and bump photos, shopping for handmade products in a Mom & Baby Market, a raffle to benefit the WNY Perinatal Bereavement Network and more.

Co-founded by event organizer Monica Infante of Rochester, NY, Beyond the Bump was born out of discussions at a new and first-time moms’ group created by Infante following the birth of her first child in 2012. She discovered a gap in knowledge surrounding the local resources available to pregnant women and new mothers during pregnancy, childbirth and through the baby’s first years of life, and set out on a mission to help bridge that gap. With support from pediatricians, members of the birthing community, non-profits and area businesses, Beyond the Bump, the only event of its kind in the area, launched in Rochester, NY in 2013.

“I personally experienced a significant difference in my own labor and delivery with my second baby in 2014 based on my involvement with Beyond on the Bump,” says Infante. “Being aware of the local support available to me and the types of questions I needed to ask became powerful tools.”

The Bump Gets Bigger

After three consecutive years of Rochester events, online growth and requests for the event to be brought to new cities, 2016 marks the expansion of Beyond the Bump into Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Lancaster, PA. While the focus may be about moms and babies, Infante notes that community is at the foundation of it all.

“Each of the cities selected this year has a strong network of local resources that cater to growing families, as well as a culture that values connections and support. Buffalo has been at the top of my list and it’s the first event of a very exciting season!” says Infante.

Special Guest Appearance
Author Ann Douglas, famous for The Mother of All book series (The Mother of All Pregnancy Books, The Mother of All Baby Books, The Mother of All Toddler Books, and The Mother of All Parenting Books), among many others, presented at Beyond the Bump’s inaugural event, and Douglas says she’s thrilled to make her debut in Buffalo, as the event reaches out to new communities of parents and parents-to-be.

“I love the philosophy that fuels the show – educating, supporting and empowering parents. It’s also been my life’s work as a parent author – helping parents to understand that they can make a difference in the lives of their children, and in the lives of other children in their communities,” says Douglas. “If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a village to support that child’s parent, and Beyond the Bump is that village.”
