Shaw Still Waiting Answer About Debate in Hamburg

It’s been a month since endorsed Democratic Candidate for Hamburg Town Supervisor, Jim Shaw, issued a call for a series of candidate debates to inform voters for the upcoming primary and general elections. According to Candidate Shaw, in those four weeks, there has been no response from his opponent.

“Thirty days ago, I sent a personal letter to my opponent asking him to participate in a series of debates to inform the public about their choices for supervisor in a transparent and interactive forum.  I am frustrated that, in that time, there has been no response from this man who claims he wants to, ‘bring people together in cooperation, to listen to all sides and reach a consensus.’ Clearly his actions speak louder than his words.”

Shaw’s proposed three-part debate series calls for an initial debate in early September in preparation for the September 12th Democratic Primary, followed by two debates in October leading up to the general election on November 7th.  At this time, the Republican endorsed candidate has not replied to the proposal other than to state in media interviews that he looks forward to the League of Women Voters Candidate Forum, traditionally held in Hamburg in October. According to Shaw, the forum offers a different candidate access than a debate.

“Every election season the League of Women Voters provides an excellent opportunity for Hamburg voters to become familiar with those running for office in the town and throughout Erie County. However, their forums are broad-based, gathering all candidates for all offices related to the governance of the town. Therefore. there is limited time dedicated to any one race. Additionally, theirs is not a debate format, which means there is not the same direct and in-depth exchange of viewpoints and information as voters can experience in a two-candidate debate. The Town of Hamburg is at a crossroads in its development and voters deserve to have full knowledge of the intent and vision of the supervisor they elect to lead our town into the next decade. That is why I have challenged my opponent to a series of debates and why I continue to encourage him to reply and participate.”

The debate time clock will remain on the Shaw4Hamburg Website until an official response from the Republican endorsed candidate for Hamburg Town Supervisor is issued and received or until election day. ‘Nobody wants this drama’: MTG admits hostility to ousting speaker  — but will plow ahead

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) admitted that "nobody" wanted the drama she was creating by trying to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) — but she's doing it anyway.

Following a press conference Wednesday where Greene vowed to trigger a "motion to vacate" the Speaker's chair next week, she spoke to conservative podcaster Steve Bannon.

"And we have Mike Johnson going in there and basically giving a sloppy kiss to [House Minority Leader] Hakeem Jeffries and Jeffries taking him in with a great big hug and them holding and sharing the speaker's gavel together," Greene complained. "That's what's wrong for America."

"Steve, nobody wants this drama right now, but it's Mike Johnson that has completely brought it on all of us," she continued.

"Yeah, this is inconvenient. Yeah, this is something I don't want to have to do with right now. Yeah, this is something that our conference shouldn't have to go through."

Greene insisted she did not run for Congress to "go along and get along."

"I didn't come up here to Washington to go along and get along and put it in cruise control and just have an easy job, cushy job up here in Washington while America burns down to the ground and gets taken over by George Soros and all of his protests in Hamas and fully open borders and we're being invaded and the economy falls apart and our dollar loses value and inflation continues to skyrocket and our kids have no hope for a future," she ranted.

"I'm sorry, I'm not here to participate in the uniparty, but I can't wait to deliver a vote for American voters next week so they can have a fully transparent list of everybody here in Congress that believes in the uniparty and has a membership card in the uniparty," Greene added.

"It's a coming out party, Steve, and I'm ready to deliver it."

Busted: Federal regulator hearing complaint against Ted Cruz has one of his yard signs

The regulator set to hear a campaign finance complaint about Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has a yard sign for the senator's campaign at his house, reported the San Antonio Current on Wednesday.

"Trey Trainor, an attorney serving on the Federal Election Commission (FEC) — the panel scheduled to hear the complaint — recently retweeted a photo his wife Lucy Trainor shared of a yard sign outside their Austin-area home promoting the Texas Republican's campaign for a third term in the U.S. Senate," said the report. "'Got my new ⁦@tedcruz⁩ yard sign installed today,' Lucy Trainor tweeted April 19, 10 days after a pair of campaign-finance watchdogs filed their FEC complaint against Cruz. Trey Trainor retweeted the image the same day his wife posted it."

Per federal contribution records, Trainor also made three contributions to Cruz in 2013, totaling to $325.

"Trainor's retweet follows last month's report by the Current that FEC Chairman Sean J. Cooksey served as Cruz's deputy chief counsel in 2018. From 2019 until joining the FEC in 2020, Cooksey served as general counsel for Missouri U.S. Senator Josh Hawley, a GOP hardliner frequently aligned with Cruz," noted the report. "Both Trainor and Cooksey are Trump appointees to the six-member FEC, which is comprised of equal numbers of Republicans and Democrats."

The complaint in question stems from iHeartMedia, which hosts Cruz's podcast, making a $630,000 payment to Truth and Courage PAC, which supports Cruz. Senate rules prohibit senators from accepting greater than "nominal value" gifts from companies that employ lobbyists, as iHeartMedia does.

Cruz, for his part, denies that anything about this arrangement is unlawful.

The senator has personally challenged campaign finance laws in the past. For instance, in 2022, after he ran afoul of a law that limited how much he could pay himself back with campaign contributions for money he loaned to his own campaign, he got the Supreme Court to toss out the law altogether.
