Slyboots Adventure Abroad to Ghana, West Africa 2017 @ Accra, Ghana | Accra | Ghana

Have you ever wanted to travel to West Africa to study traditional music, art, dance and culture? Your dreams don’t have to be simply dreams… you just have to be a little Sly about it!

Students of all musical, academic and professional backgrounds are welcome to apply to spend three weeks in an immersive environment designed to facilitate the instruction of music and the arts as well as cross-cultural understanding.

Led by Slyboots founder, Griffin Brady, the Slyboots Adventure Abroad program began in 2010 and continues to provide a unique, student centered travel experience that you will not find anywhere else. Slyboots homebase will be the Dagara Music Center, a cultural music school founded by Griffin’s mentor, master xylophone player Bernard Woma. The DMC is a leading institution in the field of traditional Ghanaian music, dance and art.

***Slyboots Adventure Abroad 2017 Program Dates & Cost***
The trip is expected to run from September 26th to October 24th 2017. The ball-park fee for this three-week trip is $4,000.00 and it includes:

1. Your international round trip airfare from JFK to Accra
2. Pickup and drop off at the Accra airport in Ghana
3. Six hours of lessons a day at the Dagara Music Center (three in the morning and three in the evening),
4. Housing, room and board
5. Three meals a day at the center
6. All in-country excursion transportation travel costs, hotels, entrance fees to museums, waterfalls, and parks.

The only additional out of pocket expenses are bottled water, soda and other beverages that are available for sale at the center; and also, lunches when you are on the six days excursion trips. For example, when you are on the excursion trips, all your transportation expenses, entrance fees, hotels, breakfast and dinner will be covered. You are only responsible for your lunches and drinks for the six days that you are away from the center.
Accommodation is one to two people in a room. There is running water and showers.

Adventure Upgrades (including but not limited to; Air conditioning, alcohol, specialty dining and private instruction) are available at an additional cost.

Programming
The program of study includes drumming, dancing, singing, batik and tye-dye making, kente weaving, bead making, basket weaving, cooking, volunteer teaching at nearby schools, working with social groups such as drum makers, market women, church groups and community-based network groups.
So much more!

Participants will also enjoy excursion trips to the Kintampo, waterfalls, the Buabeng Monkey Sanctuary, the ancient city of Kumasi, Mole National Park, the slave castles in Cape Coast, the longest canopy walk in the world and the breath taking city of Accra where you will see the Art Center, the National Museum, the University of Ghana, and see a show at the National Theatre.

As you can see, the program is not just in music and art alone. It covers a wide range of disciplines and participants don’t have to be musicians to gain knowledge and experience on the trip. This is an engaging trip, a great learning experience as well as an exchange of knowledge and ideas from both sides. All you need to do is sign up, get your vaccinations and VISA and leave the rest of the organizing work to Slyboots.
