Founded in 2009 in New York State’s Capital District, modern dance company Claire Jacob-Zysman and Dancers has performed throughout New York State and Massachusetts, including performances at Jacob’s Pillow in Beckett, MA; the National Museum of Dance in Saratoga, NY; and WHITE WAVE’s CoolNY Dance Festival and DUMBO Dance Festival in Brooklyn, NY. In 2013 Claire Jacob-Zysman was awarded an Individual Artist Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts and the Arts Center of the Capital Region.

Artistic director Claire Jacob-Zysman (BFA, ’06) is a choreographer, dancer, teacher, and registered dance/movement therapist (R-DMT) and includes these multiple facets of her dance life in her choreography. Her company performs dance pieces that portray real and imagined characters whose complexity and authenticity she demonstrates through movement. Ms. Jacob-Zysman’s creative process and choreography is driven by her belief that dance should be a therapeutic exploration of the truest form of the self.

This project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts

The Center for the Arts Professional Dance Residency
Based on the Lincoln Center model of aesthetic education, Claire Jacob-Zysman and Dancers will engage 100 students at two Buffalo public schools (Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts and Cloverbank Elementary) in hands-on dance activities to deepen their understanding of professional dance. The company will be in residence for 10 days, during which time the students will create their own choreography, and eventually perform it for their peers. Jacob-Zysman and her dancers will also provide a series of master classes for University at Buffalo Dance Majors.
