State officials say Western New York may see air "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups" on July 17. More than 100,000 N95-style masks have been made available to counties and masks are being distributed at several Thruway rest stops.

Gov. Kathy Hochul warned smoke from Canadian wildfires could push air quality into the "very unhealthy" range in Western New York and urged residents to stay indoors and monitor AirNow.gov.

An Air Quality Health Advisory is in effect July 15 for parts of Western New York due to Canadian wildfire smoke. Sensitive groups should limit outdoor exertion and monitor local AQI forecasts.
