U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced July 15, 2026, that Todd J. Romig, 29, of Rochester, was sentenced to 144 months in prison after a conviction on federal drug and gun charges.
Romig was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute 50 kilograms or more of marijuana, and of possession and discharge of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford imposed the 144-month federal prison term.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the conspiracy ran from June 2024 through April 10, 2025, during which Romig obtained multi‑pound quantities of high-end marijuana and resold them to customers. On April 10, 2025, Rochester police responded to a reported shooting at a Monroe Avenue apartment building. Officers forced entry, detained Romig and, during a sweep, observed two large open cardboard boxes filled with vacuum‑sealed packages that appeared to be marijuana, spent shell casings and a rifle.
Officers obtained a search warrant and seized:
- about 34 pounds of marijuana from the Monroe Avenue apartment,
- ammunition, a loaded magazine and a loaded rifle, and
- $50,672 in cash described as proceeds from prior marijuana sales.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office says investigators also seized approximately 146 pounds of marijuana from a Union Street residence in Spencerport, N.Y., where Romig stored additional product.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Everardo A. Rodriguez. The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF); the Rochester Police Department; the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office; and the Ogden Police Department.
