Gillibrand says she voted against FY2027 NDAA, calling it a ‘blank check’ for Trump’s Iran war

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) issued a statement July 14, 2026, explaining her vote against the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Gillibrand said she could not support the measure because it places “zero constraints” on the administration’s conduct of the conflict in Iran and would amount to a “blank check” for a war she called misguided. In the release, she linked the conflict to rising costs at the pump and in grocery stores and argued that hardworking families are bearing the financial burden.

The statement, distributed by Gillibrand’s Washington press office, said the senator opposed giving the White House unconstrained authority to continue the campaign in Iran without a clearer objective, plan or exit strategy.
