Erie County Introduces Winter Storm Scale Website

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz joins Deputy Erie County Executive Lisa Chimera, Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Commissioner Dan Neaverth, Department of Public Works Commissioner Bill Geary and Dr. Nick Bassill from the University at Albany Center of Excellence in Weather and Climate Analytics to present a public-facing website displaying the new Erie County Winter Storm Scale (ECWSS).

The ECWSS is an easy to use, color-coded website that displays a wide variety of up-to-the-minute winter storm information, which can show snow impact levels by location and as a whole county, as well as information regarding affected populations and infrastructure. Cross sections of snow impacts on the Thruway are also included, as are impacts from blowing snow as they happen. The website allows users an easy way to track winter storms, see the impacts on their own area and the larger community, and make informed decisions about how to respond.

The site is now "live" and accessible at: https://nyswrcc.org/coeweather/ecwss/
